Program Description The Forest Service considers America's small farm operators as important components in the Nation's forest health and fiber supply. Many farm and ranch owners are also woodlot owners, with their aggregate acreage being a major component of the privately owned, forestland in America. Many farmers and ranchers participate in Forest Service programs that improve the health and productivity of their forested lands. The Forest Service is also very active in the Secretary of Agriculture's National Commission on Small Farms, and the agency also participates regularly in farm and ranch related activities at both the national and regional levels.
